Measurement scientist
Make Echo's numbers ones a statistician would sign: how AI answers are sampled, how sure each number is, and experiments that show what a change moved.

The role
About the role.
Echo measures how AI assistants talk about a brand and tells teams what to change. Every AI visibility tool reports a number. Very few say how sure it is, and none can show that a change on a website moved an AI answer. We want to be the one that can.
As our measurement scientist you own the method: how many times a prompt has to run before a number holds, how to show the error bar to a marketer, and how to design before-and-after studies with control prompts that separate a real effect from an engine's mood that week. You also own the method and limits of everything Echo Lab publishes.
AI runs the analysis quickly. Choosing a design that's valid, spotting the confounder and standing behind the claim in public is the job.
What you'll do.
- Decide how many samples each metric needs, per engine, and how Echo shows how sure a number is
- Design the studies that show whether an action moved AI answers: control prompts, holdouts, difference-in-differences
- Run Echo's research panel: which prompts, which categories, how often, and what it costs
- Write the method and the limits of every Echo Lab article, and say no when a claim doesn't hold
- Turn what holds into the product, with the team: the numbers, the charts and the wording on the screens
What we look for.
- A PhD or equivalent years in statistics, econometrics, causal inference or experimentation (A/B platforms, marketing measurement, search quality)
- You've published or shipped methods other people relied on, and can show us one
- You can explain uncertainty to a marketer in one sentence, without losing the point
- You use AI to do the analysis faster and check its work like you'd check a junior colleague's
- You pick your own questions and don't wait for a brief
Senior: you've designed measurements or experiments that others built on, and you've defended them. Tell us about one that held up and one that didn't.
What you get
A base, a performance part, and room to work your way.
€70,000 a year
The base salary, paid monthly.
A performance part
A performance part tied to the methods that ship in the product and the research Echo publishes, agreed with you before you start.
Fully remote
Remote, within about three hours of Central European Time. No office, no offsites, no mandatory anything.
Your own show
You plan your own weeks and pick your own tools. We judge the outcome, not the hours.
How the pay works in full, and the questions people ask about it: the careers page.
How it tends to go
The first months.
- Weeks 1 and 2: learn Echo as a user, read how every metric is made, and find its weakest number
- Month 1: how sure each number is, written down per engine, and the research panel designed
- Month 3: the first before-and-after study running, the first Echo Lab article's method signed off by you
In short
How we work here.
Remote by design
There's no office to come to, and there won't be one. You work from wherever you do your best work, in the hours that suit the customers you're talking to. We hire people who like it that way.
You run your own show
Nobody hands you a calendar. You decide how to find customers, how to run your week and which tools to use, as long as it adds up to new customers. Think of it as running your own business inside ours, with the product, the brand and the leads already there.
Paid for outcomes
We'd rather pay you a lot for results than a little for attendance. The base salary is deliberately modest; the share of revenue isn't, and it has no cap. Someone who does well here earns two to three times their base.
Light on rituals
No offsites, no mandatory socials, no all-hands for the sake of it. A short written update, a call when a call helps, and colleagues who respect your work. If you make friends here, great; it's just not part of the job.
Read this before you apply
The interview is a study design.
We don't do coding tests or whiteboard rounds. We'd rather see how you'd answer a real question:
- Apply below. A person reads it and gets back to you within a week.
- We send you an anonymised slice of Echo's data and a real question we want answered, for example how stable an AI answer is, or whether a change on a website moved it.
- Write a one-page design: the method, what would prove it wrong, and its limits. You don't have to run it.
- We talk it through on a call, with the people you'd work with, then you get a decision within a week.
If you'd rather be judged on how you think than on how you perform in an interview, this is for you.
Apply
A few lines are enough. Honest ones are better.
No CV upload, no cover letter. Your LinkedIn profile tells us where you've been; the box below tells us whether this is the right place for you.
- How you match this level. Senior: you've designed measurements or experiments that others built on, and you've defended them. Tell us about one that held up and one that didn't.
- How you'd work when nobody sets your week: how you'd organise yourself and decide what to do next.
- One piece of work you're proud of (a paper, a method, an evaluation, an experiment), with a link, and what it changed.
