Prompts, topics, tags and personas
Prompts are the questions Echo asks AI assistants for you. They're the base of every number in Echo, so it pays to keep them close to what your buyers really ask.
Where to find them
Visibility → Prompts lists your prompts grouped by topic, each with its last result, its visibility, average position, the competitors named and a trend line. Click a prompt to read every answer.
Add prompts
- Add prompt: type one or several, pick the topic and, with several markets, the market.
- Suggest prompts: Echo proposes new prompts in the market's language. Keep the ones you like.
- Import prompts: upload a CSV or an export from Peec or Profound. Echo recognises the format, keeps your tags, skips duplicates and offers to add markets for countries in the file. History and scores from other tools aren't imported.
Your plan sets how many prompts can be active per market; see Pricing. Turn prompts off to stop asking them without losing their answers.
Write good prompts
- Write them the way a person talks to an assistant, in the market's language.
- Mix intents: "how do I…", "X vs Y", "alternatives to X", "best … for …".
- Keep branded prompts (ones that name you) to a few. Unbranded prompts show whether AI recommends you to people who don't know you yet.
The prompt audit on the Prompts page lists weak prompts: near-duplicates, prompts that name your brand but are tagged unbranded, prompts no assistant answered with any brand for 4 weeks, and topics with fewer than 3 prompts. Each comes with a fix: merge, edit, retag or turn off. Echo also runs it monthly and tells you in your Inbox.
Topics
Topics group prompts by subject ("Pricing", "Integrations"). They're shared by all your markets, so a translated prompt keeps its topic. See Topics for how you compare by topic.
Tags and personas
- Tags are free labels ("bottom of funnel", "Q4 launch"). A prompt can have several.
- Personas are the buyers a prompt is asked as, up to 5 per brand ("a head of marketing at a software company"). Echo sends the persona as one short line before the question. Each persona prompt counts as one prompt, and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode skip them.
Every chart can be filtered by tag and persona, and Compare by splits a chart by topic, tag, persona, market or what you sell.
Demand
Each prompt shows Demand (Low, Medium or High) from how often people search for its terms on Google and in AI assistants. Use it to decide which prompts matter most.
Searches AI runs
Prompts → Searches shows the web searches the assistants ran while answering (sometimes called query fan-out): the searches run most across your prompts, and the searches per prompt. These are the queries your pages need to rank for to be found by AI.
